Bobby Telford Steps Down as Iowa Wrestling Assistant Coach for New Career Opportunity

Iowa Hawkeyes Wrestling’s Bobby Telford has officially stepped down from his position as an assistant head coach for the Iowa wrestling team. Telford has moved on to something new, completely different from his previous stint.

Telford took to his social media and broke the news of his new endeavor as a sales representative for Eastern Iowa Neurosurgical with Stryker Corporation. He showed his immense excitement at joining hands with the medical giant and for serving patients across Eastern Iowa.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes assistant coach also thanked everyone who was involved in helping him make the transition to this new venture, and his message showed great optimism. The Iowa Hawkeyes have also taken to their social media, announcing the departure and wishing Telford all the luck for his future endeavors. Many of his supporters have also praised the former coach by sharing snippets of his career.

Bobby Telford had joined the Hawkeye program back in 2018 and made a name for himself as a standout coach. During his tenure, the Hawkeyes have won the Big Ten regular season dual titles thrice, alongside two Big Ten tournament titles and one NCAA team championship. Telford, during his prime, was a three-time All-American who wrestled for the Hawks from 2011 to 2015.

Bobby Telford Gives a Sneak Peak on What the Hawkeyes’ Program Looks Like

Bobby Telford gave an inside look at the Hawkeye Wrestling Club during the beginning of the previous NCAA season. Wrestlers can be seen engaging in gritty sparring sessions, working on their conditioning, and preparing for the regular seasonal tournaments.

Telford gave an insight into how diverse the camp is and how each was on his own, alongside highlighting the importance of bringing accountability to all.

“Every afternoon and morning, these guys are in here; they’re on their own today. Some guys are wrestling live, some are working on their technique, and some are getting ready to go live, depending on their age group, so a lot of different things are happening and a lot of accountability on your own right now,” he said.

The Iowan Men’s Wrestling team had just secured the 4th position at the NCAA D1 finals with a whopping score of 92.5 points, with Michael Caliendo as the runner-up.
