Former US President Barack Obama recently shared a warm message for Team USA athletes, including Mikaela Shiffrin, after their strong showing at the 2026 Winter Olympics. His post caught the attention of the skier, who shared a sweet reply on social media.
The Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina have officially come to a close after a spectacular closing ceremony. It commenced on February 6 and concluded on February 22, and during these days, the world witnessed spectacular performances from several athletes from all over the world. The American athletes, such as Shiffrin and figure skater Alysa Liu, proved their dominance on the big stage.
Shortly after the conclusion of the Winter Games, Obama penned a heartfelt message for American athletes on X. Mentioning Shiffrin, Liu, and Breezy Johnson, he appreciated the entire Team USA for competing at the Olympics.
“Congratulations to the U.S. Men’s and Women’s hockey teams, Alysa Liu, Breezy Johnson, Mikaela Shiffrin and all the amazing Olympic athletes representing @TeamUSA,” Obama wrote.
Overwhelmed with the gesture, Shiffrin replied with a sweet response on X, thanking him for the recognition.
“Wow, such an honor…Thank you so much for the recognition🙏🥹,” she replied.
The American skier had a rollercoaster journey in Milan. However, she concluded the campaign with a blast, winning a gold medal in the slalom event, ending her eight-year Olympic medal drought.

After disappointing results in the team and giant slalom events, Mikaela Shiffrin made a ravishing comeback in the slalom event. Delivering a clutch performance, she posted 1:39.10 after two runs, securing her first title since the 2018 PyeongChang Games.
Trailing behind were Camille Rast and Anna Swenn, who finished second and third, respectively. Shiffrin opened up about her victory in the post-run interview, saying that she was focused on her goal. Along with this, she revealed the conversations she had with her family and team.
“I wanted to be free, I wanted to unleash. It’s not easy to do that, but I’ve been so focused every single day. Through a lot of discussions with my psychologist, my mom, and my team, everything we said was that, despite pressure or nerves, I want to feel this skiing,” said Mikaela Shiffrin.
She added:
“In the end, today, showing up, that was the thing I wanted most. More than the medal. Now, to also get to have a medal is unbelievable.”
Mikaela Shiffrin received a heartfelt message from her fiancé, Aleksander Kilde, who congratulated her with a loving note on social media.
