Avery Krumme is making waves for Team USA at the ongoing 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. The 17-year-old secured her place in the freeski slopestyle final after ranking fourth in qualification and went on to finish 7th, 8th and 11th respectively in the three runs in the final. Krumme was born in Vancouver, Canada, in August 2008 and she grew up in Squamish, a town north of Vancouver surrounded by high mountains in British Columbia.
It is here that she developed a passion for skiing surrounded by a community with an enthusiasm for the winter sport. Krumme’s parents have played pivotal roles in shaping their daughter’s career in freestyle skiing.

Ray Krumme, a dentist by profession and an avid health, fitness and sports enthusiast, got his daughter and her siblings into a ski school when Avery was just three years old. Avery’s junior career in skiing was marred by multiple injury setbacks, in particular, two broken collarbones in 2022. However, Ray stood by his daughter through thick and thin.
In the aftermath of Krumme’s double gold sweep at the 2024 Freeski Canadian National Championships representing Freestyle Whistler, Ray touched on the life lessons one can learn from sport. He also spoke up about his daughter’s future, telling Pique News Magazine:
“There are so many life lessons with sport. I think that’s the most important thing. To actually see the world and travel and get those experiences—Avery will remember that forever. The sky’s the limit with her ability and I know her goals are a lot loftier than her recent performances. The future is going to be exciting for Avery. (Her mom) Rachel and I are just there to support her and give her those opportunities.”

Krumme’s mother Rachel, an actress, originally hails from Texas, and is the reason behind her daughter holding a dual citizenship, which ultimately led to her representing the USA in international competition from 2024.
