    Liu stunned her fans and the Olympics audience with her outstanding skills on the ice. She opened her campaign in the team event, where she played a decisive role in Team USA’s gold medal win. She earned second place after securing 74.90 points, leading her team to stand atop the podium.

    Following this gold medal, she created history in the individual free skate program. Performing on Donna Summer’s ‘MacArthur Park,’ she executed a perfect routine with twists and jumps, dominating the event with 226.79 points.

    With this triumph, she became the first American woman to nab the gold medal in figure skating in 24 years. Along with this, she also became the only American to grab a gold medal in this event since 2006.

    Shortly after the 2026 Winter Olympics concluded, Alysa Liu spoke to NBC News, where she made her feelings known about winning the gold medal at the games. She opened up about making a comeback to the Olympic stage after early retirement, and then getting to perform in her own way was like a dream to her. Calling herself lucky to have this opportunity, she said:

    “Being able to do it my way on the big stage like this has been my dream, and I got to do it in my short, I got to do it in the team event, and I got to do it tonight for the free skate, and I’m going to do it again for the Olympic Gala, so I don’t know, I’m just like over the moon. I’m the luckiest girl ever, and yeah, I’m really grateful.”

    She further said that she loves to portray her story on the ice:

    “I guess the thing is I love what I like to share about myself is like my story and my art, my creative process, and I guess messing up doesn’t take away from that. It’s still something. It’s still a story, you know, a bad story is still a story, and I think that’s beautiful, so there’s no way to lose.”

    Alysa Liu was expected to compete at the World Figure Skating Championships after the Winter Olympics; however, she recently withdrew from the event.
