Ohio State 2027 Quarterback Recruiting: Top QB Targets Ryan Day Is Going After Ft. Trae Taylor

After a disappointing end to their season, Ryan Day and the Ohio State Buckeyes are now looking to the future, and they are doing that with their high school recruitment, particularly for the Class of 2027. Julian Sayin is not going anywhere for now, as the Heisman candidate will only be entering his junior year, but who takes over after he leaves? This is why the focus is on the Class of 2027.

Ryan Day has already landed four-star Huntington Beach QB Brady Edmunds from California. He is ranked No. 16 in the position, committing to Ohio State back in 2024. He is largely seen as a possible protegee of sorts for Sayin, who will be eligible for the NFL soon. Despite this, the Buckeyes are also eyeing several other quarterbacks from the class.

The Buckeyes are also trying to recruit William Jackson from Evans High School in Orlando Florida. He is ranked No. 52 in the position and can be developed into a strong QB. There is also Jackson Smith from Lakota West High School in West Chester, Ohio, who is unranked and unstarred, with not a lot known about him, but is an intriguing in-state prospect.

However, Ryan Day is also reportedly trying to flip another prospect, one who has already committed to Nebraska. Class of 2027 quarterback Trae Taylor has already verbally committed to Nebraska and had declined campus visits to Ohio State. However, he has kept dialogue open to other programs and that includes Ohio State.

With Edmunds now in the bag, being able to flip Taylor would deepen the QB depth chart for the Buckeyes and may overtake Edmund as the possible replacement for Julian Sayin once he leaves.

What Ohio State Target Trae Taylor Said About Ohio State’s Chances

Trae Taylor is ranked No. 4 among quarterbacks froim the Class of 2027 and No. 60 overall, and this is why Ohio State has not given up on him yet. However, how do the Buckeyes stand in recruiting him? The Nebraska commit has so far stayed loyal to the Cornhuskers, but stated he is not ignoring calls from other schools.

“At this point in the process Ohio State stands where the other schools stand. I’m committed to not taking any trips to campus. But I’m definitely not going to ignore any coach that calls me. The way football is now I refuse to burn any bridges,” he said.

While he is still communicating with some coaches, this may not be to flip but whenever he may have to enter the transfer portal. Still, the quarterback is keeping his options open, so Ohio State still has a chance.
