Sunny Hostin went on ‘The View’ this week to express her disappointment at New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart introducing President Donald Trump at a recent rally in the Big Apple.
The Giants player introduced the 47th President of the United States at a rally in Rockland Community College Fieldhouse in Suffern, New York, this past Friday. Some people in the media and the world of football have taken exception to a sports personality taking part in a clearly partisan event.
Sunny Hostin, in particular, voiced another concern she has, that Dart supporting Trump is a tacit admission that the quarterback supports, what in her mind, are some of the darker aspects of modern-day conservative politics:
“When you know the history of this President, and when you know the biases of this President, for a certain community, the black community, for me, this feels personal, and I think if you’re someone who attacks the community to which I belong, and you support that, that tells me two things. Either one, you agree with his politics, and you agree with biases, or you can be adjacent to it, stomach it, and that means you’re complicit in my view.”
To this, her co-host, Academy Award-winning actress Whoopi Goldberg, vehemently agreed.
What did Jaxson Dart say about President Donald Trump?
In reality, what Jaxson Dart said about President Trump was relatively unpartisan; however, it’s clear that those who took exception are opposed to his mere presence at the rally. He did express genuine excitement at introducing the President to the crowd:
“Big Blue nation, it’s a pleasure to be here,” Dart said, encouraging the crowd to join him in a Giants chant. “What an honor, what a privilege it is to be here and, without further ado, I’m grateful, I’m honored, I’m pleasured to introduce the 45th and 47th president of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump.”
The President, in turn, was not short of praise for the Giants’ signal-caller, as he usually is with his supporters:
“I want to thank Jaxson Dart,” Trump said. “This is going to be a future Hall of Famer in my book. Thank you, thank you Jaxson. Lot of talent.”
One thing is certain, it isn’t the first nor probably the last time an NFL quarterback endorses a political figure.
