As the Dianna Russini and Mike Vrabel controversy continues, the Philadelphia Eagles have somehow got caught up in it. As a reporter for The Athletic, it was Russini who dropped the rumors of an ongoing effort to trade Brown. This report is now facing scrutiny, given the reports of her being intimate with New England head coach Mike Vrabel at a hotel resort.
The trade for AJ Brown involves the New England Patriots, and because it was Russini who reported it, many raised their eyebrows, as this makes her relationship with Vrabel more suspicious. Nonetheless, NFL insider Adam Schefter has now given an update on the situation, and it seems that the Eagles may be trading him after all.
“AJ Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a topic of conversation, and in the meantime, the Eagles add another WR in Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay,” Schefter reported. “The belief remains that, if an AJ Brown trade were to happen, it would likely occur after June 1, when the cap burden would be more manageable for the Eagles.”
This could mean that the Eagles could be facing financial implications in trading AJ Brown, as they could be facing a dead cap hit of $43 million for the 2026 season if they trade him before June 2. Trading him after could be a better option, as this could mean that their cap hit would be smaller.
Mike Vrabel Never Dismissed the AJ Brown Trade Rumors
Before the photos of the alleged affair between Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russinni surfaced, the NFL insider was reportedly reporting about it constantly. This soon led to Vrabel addressing the rumors during the league’s annual meeting back in March:
“We’ve talked about this since last January. We’re going to try to do everything we can to strengthen our roster through the draft, through free agency, multiple ways of player acquisition,” he said.
Vrabel is more than familiar with AJ Brown, as the wide receiver played for him during his time with the Titans from 2019 to 2021. The Patriots are in need of another wide receiver after releasing Stefon Diggs shortly after the Super Bowl.
