Travis Hunter entered the NFL last year with a lot of buzz around his name. Hunter won the 2024 Heisman Trophy, was a unanimous All-American, Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, and more, becoming one of the most intriguing non-quarterbacks of his generation.
In his personal life, Hunter married Leanna Lenee in May 2025, a month after his No. 2 selection in the NFL draft. The couple welcomed their baby boy in August. Since then, they often post pictures with their child on social media.
During a Q&A session on her Instagram stories on Wednesday, Lenee was asked by a fan if her son would play football one day, following in his dad’s footsteps.
“Do you plan to let your son play football one day,” a fan asked.
“Tbh, probably not!” Lenee responded.
Even though it’s common for children to pursue a career in the same sport as their parents, Lenee suggested their son will probably not play football.
Travis Hunter’s ability to play both sides of the ball was one of the reasons why he became such an exciting prospect. However, the Jacksonville Jaguars couldn’t benefit from it last season as he got injured halfway through the season.
On October 30, Hunter suffered a knee injury during practice and was placed on injured reserve. At the time, he was expected to miss up to four weeks. However, once he underwent surgery, Hunter was ruled out for the rest of the season.
He only played seven games in his rookie season, recording 28 receptions for 298 yards and one touchdown. On the defensive side, Hunter recorded 15 tackles and three pass deflections.
As per NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Hunter is fully recovered to be at the team’s training camp later this month.
Travis Hunter’s Teammate Heaped Praise on Him
Jags defensive lineman Arik Armstead recently made an appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio. He talked about how impressive it was to see Travis Hunter be so effective on both sides, and the team is expecting the same from him next season.
“What he did, not even attempted now, was outstanding and good for our sport,” Armstead said. “He’s a game changer. He’s probably the most naturally talented athlete, just pure athlete I’ve been around, and I’ve been around some amazing ones. It was good for our sport, and it was good for our team.”
Coming back from a serious injury usually slows a player down for a while, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect on Travis Hunter. The Jaguars will be looking to make a deep season run with a fully healthy Hunter on the team.
