“Why Did They Have To Come To My City”: NY Politician Sounds Off on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Lavish Wedding

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married last week at Madison Square Garden in New York City. However, not everyone was happy about it.

Former New York City mayoral candidate Curtis Sliwa criticized the wedding while talking to TMZ. Sliwa claimed the high-profile wedding turned Manhattan into a playground for Hollywood’s “trendoids, jet-setters and freakazoids.” Sliwa wondered why they would choose New York as their wedding destination in the first place.

“Like, we didn’t need enough, right?” Sliwa asked. “We didn’t have enough kickball, kickball, World Cup. Who needed this? The last marriage you had in Madison Square Garden was Sun-Young Moon forcibly marrying Moonies. How tacky. And then they had a buffet. A buffet. Why did they do this in Cleveland or Kansas City, the heartland of America? Why did they have to come to my city?”

He argued that the wedding destination proved burdensome on New Yorkers due to road closures, heavy police presence, and disruptions.

“What did it do for the cops who had to sweat out there?” Sliwa continued. “Twelve hours a day with bulletproof vests. They were like beasts of burden. You know what she gave the cops? She gave them oogatz. She gave them bupkis. Those are the peeps I represent in the streets.

Sliwa also questioned the impact of the wedding on local businesses.

“They had to close down local businesses because they had a checkpoint. They had a frozen zone of about four square blocks. That’s not fair to them,” Sliwa said.

Sliwa’s comments are consistent with reports shedding light on how local businesses were affected in New York. According to Page Six, portions of Midtown Manhattan were closed off because of the wedding. This includes part of Seventh Avenue near Madison Square Garden, for which the couple reportedly paid about $60,000 for a city permit. The footfall in local businesses was less due to restrictions on foot traffic as well.

Curtis Sliwa Roasts Travis Kelce Over His Relationship With Taylor Swift

Curtis Sliwa didn’t just stop at the wedding’s effect on people living in the city. The New Yorker also dissed the Kansas City Chiefs tight end for his role in the wedding.

“So, you know, Travis Kelce, he seems to be the Mid guy, you know, the guy from the flyover area of America. Take charge of that relationship,” Sliwa said. “He ain’t wearing the pants in that thing.”

Sliwa explained his basis for why he thinks Kelce has no grip on his relationship with Swift.

“If I were a boyfriend now engaged or married to Taylor Swift, do I want a whole album dropped on my head? A diss album like all of her many other boyfriends over the years?” Sliwa asked.

When the TMZ reporter pushed back on the idea, Sliwa said they have no idea about the reality of marriages.

“Fifty percent of marriages end up in divorce. I know that personally. So, please, I hope for the best, but I’ve seen a long list of boy toys in the past and, man, they end up getting dissed and dismissed,” Sliwa added.

The latest rant comes in the wake of voices regarding how New York suffered to facilitate the wedding of two big names in the country.
