San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk made it clear today that he has no intention of changing his social media behavior, regardless of what happens next in his NFL career.
In an Instagram story on July 8, he addressed those who have questioned his online activity. Instead of backing away from the controversy, he doubled down on it.
“I’ll tell you what,” Aiyuk said. “If I get a job back in the NFL, I’ll still be on my bulls–t on social media.”
The clip was later shared by OurSF49ers on X, where many fans questioned whether Aiyuk’s approach would help his chances in finding a new team.
“Threats don’t usually pay off unless you’re in a position of power lol,” one fan wrote.
Another added, “A career being washed down the drain due to idiocy. Who wants this in their locker room?”
“He can’t be that bright. He is just torching his career acting like a 5 yr old on social,” another fan commented.
Some believed the receiver needs better guidance before damaging his reputation even further.
“That’s gotta be someone actively in his ear telling him to stop talking or else the money and opportunities are off the table,” another fan wrote.
“He went from I’m going to be a Commander to now ‘IF’ I get a job in the NFL,” another user wrote.
Brandon Aiyuk Continues Public Criticism of the 49ers
On July 7 Aiyuk posted another story accusing San Francisco of misleading fans regarding the timeline of his contract guarantees being voided.
“When the news finally came out that my guarantees were voided in November,” Aiyuk wrote, “the team continued to lie to the media/fan base acting as if that was not a decision that was made in July.”
Head coach Kyle Shanahan also acknowledged that he learned about the contract decision in July, while also stating that it had no effect on his relationship with the receiver.
“That was information that I found out in July, and kind of dealt with it then,” Shanahan said. “To me, the contract stuff and guarantees and things like that are irrelevant to my relationship with the player and my relationship with our team and what we’re trying to do this year.”
Beyond his criticism of the 49ers, Aiyuk also spent part of the offseason publicly pushing for a reunion with Washington Commanders and his former Arizona State teammate Jayden Daniels. However, that storyline cooled after the pair exchanged subtle jabs on social media, casting further uncertainty over any potential move.
With training camp approaching and his NFL future still unresolved, Aiyuk is left in a really tough spot.
