A video of Baker Mayfield is going viral, in which he can be heard talking trash to the Philadelphia Eagles’ cornerback Quinyon Mitchell. The exchange took place last season when the Eagles faced the Buccaneers.
While talking trash is a big part of the game, two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy doesn’t think Mayfield should’ve done that against Mitchell. He blasted the Tampa Bay quarterback on ‘Speakeasy’ when he was asked if he loved or hated the trash talk.
“I hate it,” he said. “Baker Mayfield has been above average for a very long time. Every once in a while, he has a really good year to make people like y’all talk about him.”
McCoy blamed the host of the show and former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho, alongside Chad Johnson and others, for hyping up Mayfield whenever he goes on a hot streak in a season.
The former Super Bowl champ believes that Mayfield hasn’t had a consistent run in the league that would make him great in his eyes.
“I hold you [Acho] to a higher standard than I hold them other dudes, and then you hype him up like the real deal, you know, like the All-Pro receivers, the All-Pro corners, this is how you talk to them? Talking about ‘Who are you?’ What?” McCoy added.
He was referring to the viral clip of Mayfield saying, “Who are you anyway?” to Mitchell during a game. Even after Mitchell replied, “You know who I am,” the quarterback told him, “No, I don’t.”
Mayfield revealed that he “stole” that line from former Texans RB Arian Foster. Even though it was an interesting exchange between the two, McCoy believes that Mitchell, a Super Bowl champion and 2025 First Team All-Pro, deserves respect.
Baker Mayfield Played with a Sprained MCL and PCL Last Season
In 2024, Baker Mayfield registered the best numbers of his NFL career. He had 407 pass completions on 570 attempts for 4500 yards and 41 touchdowns. His overall production took a hit in 2025.
In the new season of Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’ docuseries, Mayfield revealed that he had been dealing with a sprained MCL and PCL in his knee since Week 2.
“Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, on the Netflix series Quarterbaxk, reveals he played with a sprained MCL and PCL since Week 2. He also had a bad biceps contusion that was bruised and affected his velocity. Then the left shoulder injury vs. Rams,” Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud reported.
Despite the injury, he had over 63% pass completion for nearly 3700 yards and 26 touchdowns. With the full context, the numbers seem more impressive.
