After a lengthy coaching career going back to the late 1980s, Todd Monken has gotten hold of his first-ever NFL head coaching gig. In late January, the Cleveland Browns announced the former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator as their new head coach. He will replace two-time Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski, who was fired after a disappointing 2025 season.
On Tuesday, the coach was presented to the press as the new head coach of the team. During the event, it’s clear that Monken, who is 59 years old, was clearly moved by his designation to the role. At one point, he broke down.
“Sh*t! I told myself I wasn’t going to cry for God’s sakes. Someone thank my mom and dad, no longer with us. My brothers, Tony and Ted.”
During the press conference, he also touched upon one of the biggest question marks for the Cleveland Browns next season: Who will be their quarterback next season? Monken’s answer was simple: he doesn’t know yet, and that will be determined in the future.
This means that Shedeur Sanders could see the starting job snatched from him.
Shedeur Sanders is Excited to Work With Todd Monken
Shedeur Sanders, who got an unlikely Pro Bowl nod to fill in for New England’s Drake Maye, who is deep in preparation for Super Bowl LX, spoke during the press events of the event and said the following about his team’s new coach:
“It’s truly great that he was able to coach Lamar and he was able to accomplish everything he was able to accomplish in his life and his career,” Sanders said. “I feel like we definitely have a connection just from talking to him, just seeing his vibe. He has a great vibe about him.”
He also admitted that he wasn’t expecting a call-up to the Pro Bowl in his rookie year, although many in the sport agree that this is hardly an honor, as he was only asked to participate due to the number of players who turned down an invitation or couldn’t participate due to other commitments or injuries
The game will take place on Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET at Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
