Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Tez Johnson has been accused of cheating, the same day he proposed to his ex-girlfriend, Laila Thompson-Wainer.
Thompson-Wainer shared her account in a video on TikTok, where she exposed the Bucs star one year after their engagement. The act happened on Feb. 21, 2025, leaving Thompson-Wainer “traumatized” one year later.
Thompson-Wainer recalled the morning of Feb. 21 last year, when she already knew she was going to be proposed to by the wide receiver.
“So a year ago today we were living in Orange County in this cute little apartment. He was training there, and I just remember waking up and feeling those excited jitters. I was 90% sure that he was going to propose that day. There were so many hints swirling around, and I just remember feeling like a little girl,” she said.
That morning, the two of them went to the reptile zoo and were joined by Johnson’s son. Initially, Thompson-Wainer thought she was going for a photoshoot. When they arrived at the proposal destination, complete with a beautiful floral arrangement, Johnson went down on one knee and popped the question. They went to the beach thereafter and did a photoshoot. According to Thompson-Wainer, Johnson texted her ex before and after the proposal. The content of those texts was inappropriate.
“For some reason, you cheat before and after you propose. The morning of and the night of. That’s just something I will never understand. I’ve given up on trying to understand how someone can be that evil. I think you just have to be a sociopath, and that’s just it at the end of the day,” she added.

Laila Thompson-Wainer shared her account regarding Tez Johnson’s cheating on engagement day because she wants to “help other women feel seen” and talk about healing after relationships.
“If I can make one woman feel seen, heard, or understood, help in a healing journey, then I’ve done what I set out to do,” Thompson-Wainer said. “If I had to deal with a bad fiancé, I would use what I learned about a bad man to spark conversations about healing and build a community of women.”
Neither Johnson nor the Bucs has responded to the allegations made by his ex-partner.
