San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has openly expressed his interest in joining the Washington Commanders. Former NFL safety and Super Bowl 50 champion TJ Ward delivered a blunt assessment of Aiyuk, questioning whether any front office should be willing to take a chance on him given his recent behavior.
Speaking on “SpeakEasy,” TJ Ward questioned Brandon Aiyuk’s approach.
“I don’t think so. I don’t think he’s stable,” Ward said when asked if he would want Aiyuk on his team. “He’s a great talent, but there’s a million great talents in the NFL. He’s an attention seeker, and I’m cool on attention seekers … but this kind of performance is unhealthy for the success of a football team.”
“You talking about scamming a team, but you’re trying to persuade another team to sign you, but you just showed the scam you pulled off.”
Uncertainty Continues to Surround Brandon Aiyuk’s Future
Aiyuk’s relationship with the 49ers has steadily deteriorated following his four-year, $120 million extension in 2024. After suffering a significant knee injury, he reportedly skipped team-supervised rehab sessions, leading the organization to void future guarantees in his contract.
Since then, Aiyuk has repeatedly posted content suggesting he wants to play for Washington. One recent video directed fans to the Commanders’ website to buy tickets,
“What’s up, everybody? It’s your boy. I’m back in action and back on tour this fall. Go to Commanders.com to get your tickets and watch us rock out,” he said in the video.
While another featured him openly saying he would sign with Washington if the 49ers released him.
Despite the online drama, there has been no indication that a trade is going to take place. The 49ers continue to hold his rights, and Washington has not publicly expressed interest in acquiring him either.
Aiyuk is one of the league’s most talented wide receivers, but with the recent social media antics, the focus has shifted from his performance to questions about his future.
