Brandon Aiyuk posted another cryptic Instagram Story on Thursday, showing himself walking into an empty closet, pulling stacks of cash from a backpack and tossing the money onto the floor before putting on the backpack and leaving.
After the video was shared, many fans questioned what the meaning behind the story was.
“He’s just hurting his case for a new team. He’s became a joke at this point,” one fan wrote.
Another felt the online behavior was unnecessary: “This boy here on some dumb shit. Sports media gotta quit following him. See how he acts when ignored.”
Others believed the video reflected poorly on Aiyuk.
“He has to be the dumbest person I’ve seen. I hope these antics keep any team from wanting him just to humble him a bit,” one wrote.
“He’s ruining his trade value on purpose so he can get released and go where he wants to go,” another added.
“If this guy was serious; shouldn’t he be posting videos of his route running and how he’s ready to play?!? Instead he’s flaunting the last of his money, throwing a tantrum like a teenager,” one user wrote.
What Does the Future Hold For Brandon Aiyuk?
Aiyuk’s post comes amid an ongoing standoff with the 49ers. In recent weeks, he has shared and deleted multiple Instagram Stories criticizing the team and publicly expressed interest in joining the Washington Commanders.
Though his future with the franchise remains uncertain, the 49ers are expected to evaluate whether to keep him on the roster, explore a trade, or release him.
Former 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman recently suggested that the relationship deteriorated after Aiyuk failed to report early for a required medical evaluation following his rehab.
“You don’t get to just get paid and say, ‘Hey, I’m not going to rehab with the team.’ Which is fine. Which is perfectly fine. Many players have done it,” he said.
“But if you do that, you have to show up four days earlier than everybody else. Because the team that invested $30 million a year in you wants to evaluate you and see how your rehab has gone. They want to do MRIs, they want to do testing and they want to do it at a time where 90 other players aren’t there, so they can really focus on you … .so they can truly understand where you’re at in your process.”
With training camp approaching, Aiyuk’s social media activity continues to draw attention, while his future in San Francisco remains in doubt.
