The starting quarterback competition for the Cleveland Browns is the one to watch this year, as the franchise has 3 promising players fighting for the job in the 2026 NFL season.
The 2025 season started with Joe Flacco as the starting quarterback, with Dillon Gabriel as the backup quarterback. After the veteran QB’s release from the Browns, the Oregon star was given the QB1 role and was later replaced by Shedeur Sanders for the last 7 weeks.
While many fans and analysts are advocating for Shedeur Sanders to be the QB1, as the ex-Colorado star finished the season playing for them in that position, Stephen A. Smith made a case for DeShaun Watson, who is under a contract worth $230,000,0000 with the Browns.
Todd Monken Offers Key Insight in QB Competition Between Shedeur Sanders and Others
Todd Monken shared a major insight into how the quarterback competition would pan out in the training camp as the team prepares for the 2026 season.
On Tuesday, Monken told the media that the reps won’t be divided equally among all the quarterbacks fighting for the starting role.
The Browns’ head coach spoke about how the franchise will decide and said:
“By basically what we’ve seen in the past and where the year ended last year.“ Monken said.
However, when asked whether that means Shedeur Sanders will be the frontrunner for the starting QB role, Monken replied by saying that it’s too early to say that.
