The Pittsburgh Steelers hired head coach Mike McCarthy this past Saturday, and he has his defensive coordinator.
Per multiple reports, the Steelers are expected to hire former Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
Graham was hired by the Raiders in 2022, and has served as their defensive coordinator for the last four seasons. This past season, his Raiders defense ranked No. 25 in scoring, No. 14 in total defense, No. 17 against the run, and No. 14 against the pass.
Graham began his coaching career in 2002, serving as a graduate assistant at Wagner. He coached college football until joining the New England Patriots’ coaching staff in 2009 as a coaching assistant. He’s been a part of the Patriots, New York Giants, Green Bay Packers, Miami Dolphins, and Las Vegas Raiders coaching staffs.
Pittsburgh Steelers Coaching Staff Is Coming along
While it was expected that the Pittsburgh Steelers would clean house with its coaching staff, some coaches from Mike Tomlin’s staff were retained.
New head coach Mike McCarthy has retained three coaches from last year’s staff in linebackers coach Scott McCurley, quarterbacks coach Tom Arth, and secondary coach Gerald Alexander. McCurley worked on McCarthy’s staff in Dallas from 2020-2024, but joined Pittsburgh in 2025. The other two coaches have not previously worked with McCarthy.
Additionally, McCarthy is looking to add former Green Bay Packers offensive line coach James Campen and former Dallas Cowboys assistant line coach Ramon Chinyoung.
The Steelers lost offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, who take the same position at Ohio State. They are still looking for his replacement.
