Aaron Rodgers has never gotten along swimmingly with every reporter and insider. However, he may have lost at least one that was on his side.
FOX Sports reporter Jay Glazer told Yahoo Sports (via JPA) that Rodgers was not responding to his calls. Glazer was not happy about the situation and refused to try to mend the apparent falling-out.
Of course, the shot could be Glazer’s attempt to retrieve a response from Rodgers to restart communication.
However, at face value, it appears that Glazer and Rodgers no longer have ties. Considering how close Rodgers is to the end of his career and how long Glazer has been a member of the media, the relationship didn’t appear to have much left in terms of lucrative prospects in a traditional insider-player sense.
Aaron Rodgers Remains Mum On NFL Return Despite Steelers’ Coaching Hire
Aaron Rodgers is no stranger to mysterious silences, especially since the conclusion of the NFL season. Between darkness retreats and moves needing a tell-all press conference at the start of the next season, Rodgers is following the same pattern after the conclusion of another season.
However, in an apparent bid to retain the quarterback, the Pittsburgh Steelers hired Mike McCarthy, who would offer the most streamlined opportunity for Rodgers to slide back into a familiar offense for one more run.
Still, the move didn’t elicit a response from Rodgers, who has remained uncommitted about his future. One would have assumed that hiring McCarthy either would have kicked the door open to a return or slammed it shut.
It would have kicked it open if Rodgers had been able to set aside any lingering differences with the head coach from his Green Bay days. It would have slammed it shut if Rodgers were not interested in going back under McCarthy’s wing, feeling like he had moved on. Perhaps Rodgers is still considering which side he wants to land on, or he could simply be taking time away from a long, grueling season in which he failed to escape unscathed.
Whenever he decides, Jay Glazer appears unlikely to be the first to know.
