Shedeur Sanders’ NFL journey so far has been full of ups and downs, from sliding to the 5th round in the 2026 NFL draft to beating seven-time Super Bowl champ Tom Brady in merchandise sales in his first year.
The former Colorado star had to wait for almost half of the season for his turn to be the Browns QB, and only got the opportunity when Dillon Gabriel had to go out of the game against the Baltimore Ravens.
Sanders’ performance last year wasn’t as bad as many analysts expected; however, the scope for improvement was vast.
Talking about Sanders’ improvement ahead of the 2026 NFL season, Colin Cowherd shared his thoughts, admitting that while he believes the former Colorado star is a bit immature and silly, he thinks the Cleveland Browns can actually win games with him.
“I don’t think Shedeur Sanders is a bad kid. I think he’s a little immature, a little silly for my taste, but I think he’s got real talent,” Cowherd said.
“I think you can win games with Shedeur. I think Cleveland, the last couple of years, has aced the draft, and I think they’re going to win games this year. Not two or three. Six, seven, or eight. I really believe that. I think Shedeur can play. It’s a hill I’m going to die on. Let me tell you, Andrew Berry (Cleveland Browns general manager) is really sharp. They may not have wanted to draft him, but he can play. This is gonna become Tebow, except a guy can actually win games.”
Colin Cowherd Blames Deion Sanders for Shedeur Sanders’ 2026 NFL Draft Setbacks
Shedeur Sanders was projected to go in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft; however, he suffered a dramatic draft slide and was eventually selected by the Browns with the 144th pick.
While some analysts blamed the NFL coaches, saying they’re threatened by Deion Sanders potentially costing their jobs if they draft his son, others thought that how Coach Prime handled his son’s pre-draft situation led them to the outcome.
Colin Cowherd spoke about how Shedeur’s NFL draft setbacks could be blamed on his dad, Deion Sanders:
“You know what also did him a disservice? His dad is Deion Sanders. Here’s what we know. [Deion’s] a great all-time NFL player, a pretty good major baseball player, a so-so head coach, and a terrible agent,” Cowherd said on his YouTube channel. “During Super Bowl week, he cut it up with a lot of hosts, and the overwhelming sentiment was, ‘I don’t want my kids playing for some of these lousy teams.’ The problem, of course, is that the lousy teams are the ones that need a quarterback.”
Cowherd highlighted that Coach Prime went around during the Super Bowl week and cut it up with a lot of hosts, setting up the narrative that he didn’t want his son to play for the lousy teams, which then made those teams take Shedeur’s name off the board even if they did need a quarterback.
