Brendan Sorsby is now ready to enter the 2026 NFL supplemental draft after leaving Texas Tech just a few days after getting his temporary injunction that overruled the NCAA’s ban.
Sorby’s gambling scandal has become one of the most controversial stories of the 2026 offseason, with many coaches, fans, and analysts believing the former Red Raiders star should not be allowed to play college football anymore.
Talking about whether an NFL team should draft Sorsby or not, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick shared his thoughts on Wednesday:
“Look, every single GM team president and owner is always trying to strike that delicate balance between tolerance relative to talent level. The greater the player, the more you’re willing to kind of let things slide and kind of like try and pass things through and justify in your own mind that the risk is worth the reward. Ok, this one’s going to be very tough. I think so, for every football team. It may be tougher for some teams than others, obviously depending upon the need that they have at the position and how good they think he is as a player. But look, these would be some very interesting conversations about, okay, do we believe that this young man has made enough progress to the point where we don’t have to sit there and every time he drops back from center, he’s making decisions in the best interest of this football team, which is there’s really only one interest that everybody, all 53 guys, have, and that is to win football games, right?
Riddick added that a team wouldn’t want to think in the back of their heads every time Sorsby misses a pass, fumbles a snap, or faces an interception, given that he has been accused of gambling on his own team during his time at Indiana.
Emmanuel Acho’s Fired Up Reaction to Brendan Sorsby’s Temporary Injunction
Emmanuel Acho has been among the most vocal analysts when it comes to sharing his thoughts on Sorsy’s temporary injunction.
After Sorsby was banned by the NCAA, he sued the organization and gained a temporary injunction via court, regaining his eligibility for the 2026 season.
Condemning the decision to let Sorsby play, Acho said that when the fans watch him on the field, they would have doubts about whether he has an ulterior motive.
“At the point in which a player is wagering in excess of $90,000 on games that he is actively involved in, you’re completely ruining, jeopardizing, and undermining the integrity of one of the last and final things in our country that actually bring us together. I think it’s a very dangerous precedent to set to allow a player to gamble on his own team and continue to play. I don’t think Brendan Sorsby should be able to play college football.”
A few days after the injunction, Sorsby and the Red Raiders parted their ways, ending the star quarterback’s collegiate journey.
