Josh Pate believes Texas Tech will be a tough nut to crack in 2026 despite quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s departure. The Red Raiders are having a particularly rocky offseason, highlighted by the ban imposed on Sorsby by the NCAA due to his gambling history.
A Texas District Judge, however, granted him a temporary injunction earlier this month, allowing him to play next season. Despite this, Sorsby declared for the NFL supplemental draft, giving up on his college career. Analyst Josh Pate does not believe the drama will impact the program.
“Texas Tech is still going to be a very tough out this fall. It is still going to be very difficult to deal with. and remember, it’s June 15th. It’s not September 15th. So, did they lose Brendan Sorsby today? Yeah, but they’ve also never had him. He’s never played a game there. Will Hammond has, and you know it wasn’t going to be one-on-one. This is not Big 12 tennis. This is Big 12 football. So they still have 11 on the field this fall, and they’re going to be really good, and that roster will probably still be better than any other roster in the Big 12,” Pate SAID on Monday.
On Monday, the Big 12 filed a lawsuit seeking injunctive relief to allow it to enforce its bylaws and sanction Sorsby.
Brendan Sorsby’s Announcement Of Joining The NFL Supplemental Draft
Brendan Sorsby announced on Monday night that he is leaving Texas Tech and will attempt to enter the NFL.
“I am grateful for the support from my family, my Tech coaching staff, teammates, the community, and so many others who have encouraged me to address and learn more about this important issue,” Sorsby said in a statement. “As my journey continues, I remain fully committed to and focused on being the best I can be, both on and off the field.”
According to the NFL Network, Sorsby plans to withdraw his lawsuit against the NCAA on Tuesday.
