The controversy surrounding New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and reporter Dianna Russini just isn’t going away.
With Russini resigning from her role with The Athletic, it felt like a matter of time before questions would be raised about Mike Vrabel’s employment status with the Patriots and whether the franchise would take the step of firing the coach.
Those questions have grown louder over the last few days. Shannon Sharpe explained why the Patriots are unlikely to dismiss Vrabel.
“Dianna Russini does not work for the Patriots, Mike Vrabel does not work for ESPN,” Sharpe said, suggesting this would have been taken more seriously if the duo worked together in the same company.
“What are you firing Mike Vrabel for? What law or code did he break? He broke his vows. Like I said, that’s between him and his wife. That’s between him and God. They are not the same.”
Vrabel addressed the controversy in a press conference last week, saying he had spoken to his family and would seek counseling. He missed the third day of the NFL draft, reportedly to spend time with his family outside Massachusetts.
