“We Have a Plan in Place”: Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell Shares Reaction on Kyler Murray’s Comment on Splitting Reps With J.J McCarthy Amid Backlash

Kyler Murray’s recent comments about having difficulty splitting reps with J.J. McCarthy went viral, as many analysts and fans found it arrogant for him to say that.

Murray shared that after spending 7 years with the Arizona Cardinals, where he worked under two offensive systems and got all the reps, it’s hard to be already behind. While learning a new offense, one could use as many reps as possible.

Talking about Murray’s statement, Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell shared that the veteran QB’s comments might have been taken out of context.

O’Connell added that he believes he knows what Murray intended to say, which is something similar to the kind of conversations they’ve had both privately and as a group.

“I would say this, you know, this phase, this time of year, you know, based by the rules and also how we handle it. It is a foundation to build off of and every rep obviously matters. But this time of year, the beauty of not going full speed on a lot of reps is you can get a lot out of watching other guys reps as well. So I think that’s taken place. I think there’s been great learning that’s taken place. but those guys both know we have a plan in place to make sure that the decision we make that is going to be about what’s best for the Minnesota Vikings and the timeline of that does involve making sure we get our starter ready to go. And we want to make sure by the time we play the Green Bay Packers that there’s been ample time to have the best possible offense we can have to help our football team, and the quarterback’s going to play a big role in that.”

2x Super Bowl Champ Expresses Frustration With Kyler Murray’s Comments on Having to Split the Reps

During a recent conversation on the “Speakeasy” podcast, LeSean McCoy shared his thoughts on Kyler Murray’s statement about having to split reps with J.J. McCarthy.

McCoy shared that while he loves a super-confident, arrogant player, he hates a super-cok=cky arrogant player who is just barely above average.

McCoy said, “But you know what? I hate a super-cocky, arrogant player that is just barely above average… That’s not that good. That’s a little above average. That is Kyler Murray.”

The 2x Super Bowl champ pointed out that Murray gets so bad when he starts, questioning what the former Cardinals star has done for the fans lately, even when he had good wide receivers.
