New England Patriots coach Mike Vrabel once admitted that he missed the birth of his second son, Carter, in November 2001 because of his playing commitments.
At the time, Vrabel was playing for the Patriots. Years later, during his introductory press conference for joining the Tennessee Titans as a coach in January 2018, he shared the details of that day.
Vrabel said that when his wife, Jen, was going into labor in Ohio, he was at practice in Massachusetts and could not make it to the hospital in time.
“I am not proud to say this, but I am just going to tell you about my wife,” Vrabel said. “She gave birth to Carter, I missed it, I was at practice, she was in Ohio. He came early, he flipped, they had to take her. I showed up four hours late because I was playing football and she was having a baby. I love her to death.”
He also thanked his wife for all her support.
“Jennifer has been through a lot and she understands this league,” Vrabel said. “She challenged me to get into the NFL after spending some time at Ohio State.
Mike Vrabel has another son, Tyler.
Vrabel and Jennifer are college sweethearts who met during their freshman year in a class titled “Time Management” at Ohio State University in the early 1990s.
Jennifer revealed that she had noticed Mike in the front of the class, not for his studiousness, but because he was constantly joking with the people around him. She said she went to their professor to ask for Mike’s phone number so she could call him.
They dated throughout their time at Ohio State and eventually married in 1999.
Mike Vrabel And Dianna Russini’s Arizona Resort Photos Spark Controversy
Page Six published photos earlier this month showing Mike Vrabel and NFL reporter Dianna Russini at the Ambiente resort in Sedona, Arizona.
The pictures were reportedly from March 28, a day before the NFL owners’ meetings in Phoenix. Both were spotted relaxing by the resort pool. Pictures also showed them on a private rooftop bungalow.
Following an internal review by The Athletic, Russini resigned from her position as a lead NFL reporter on April 14.
The NFL will not investigate the matter, and Mike Vrabel remains the coach of the Patriots with a focus on the upcoming NFL draft.
Dianna Russini is also married. She tied the knot with Kevin Goldschmidt in September 2020.
