The Seattle Seahawks are about to face the Los Angeles Rams in the Conference Championship round today. Klint Kubiak, as their offensive coordinator, has been highly successful with his team this season.
That success has brought him into the limelight, and now Kubiak is being mentioned in the coaching rumors. While he’ll be focused on the Seahawks season journey, hopefully into the Super Bowl, Kubiak will also have other things on his mind.
The Seahawks’ offensive coordinator is rumored to be in talks for the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coaching job. In fact, he is one of the frontrunners and arguably the favorite to land the job.
“Many people in league circles view Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak as a ‘prime candidate’ for the Raiders’ head coaching job,” ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported.
The Raiders have been without a head coach for almost 20 days now. They fired their former head coach, Pete Carroll, on January 5 after their season ended. Since then, Kubiak has emerged as a prospect.
“Raiders’ coaching search should come into focus after Sunday. Multiple league sources consider Seahawks OC Klint Kubiak a prime candidate after a strong first interview. Broncos pass-game coordinator Davis Webb is often mentioned in league circles as a viable option, too,” Fowler reported.
If the $7.7 billion franchise manages to land him, it’ll be a big loss for the Seahawks. Even though Kubiak joined the franchise less than a year ago, he has been instrumental to Seattle’s success this season, which has brought them to the Conference Championship.
Why the Raiders Want Klint Kubiak?
Kubiak is one of the best available prospects in the coaching pool right now. He has over a decade of experience, a proven track record as a position coach, and, more importantly, he is just 38 years old.
If he is allowed to settle into any program, Kubiak can be a great long-term head coach. As per a report by Ian Rapoport, that’s one of the main reasons why the Raiders are so focused on him right now.
“The belief is Las Vegas is looking for a younger, offensive coach, and Kubiak — a top coordinator – and [Davis] Webb fit that bill.”
Kubiak has completed virtual interviews with the Raiders, and everything seems to have gone well so far. If talks don’t derail from here, the Raiders might soon have a new head coach.
