Sean McVay’s Los Angeles Rams qualified for the Divisional Round after beating the Carolina Panthers 34-31 in the Wild Card Round. They will face the Chicago Bears next on Sunday at Soldier Field in Chicago.
Chicago’s journey to the Divisional Round involved beating the Green Bay Packers 31-27. Interestingly, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur is now helping McVay prepare for the game against the Bears.
During a recent media interaction, Rams head coach talked about the conversations he has had with LaFleur. He stated that he’s friends with him and that they watch tape together to prepare for Ben Johnson’s Bears.
“What would you guess? No, you know what, we watch the tape, we do our work, and Matt is a very close friend of mine,” he SAID.
A few days ago, LaFleur’s team lost to the Bears in humiliating fashion. In the first half, they were the dominant side, controlled the game on both ends, and had a huge 21-3 lead. Fans thought that Green Bay was going to the next round.
However, the Bears had other plans. In the third quarter, they cut the lead down to 21-6, but still, they were far from beating the Packers. Then the game changed drastically in the fourth quarter.
The Bears went on a 25-6 run in front of their home crowd. Everything that LaFleur had planned to stay in control of the game was derailed. He surely would’ve taken notes, learned his lessons from the loss. Which is why he’s now helping McVay prepare for the next game.
The Bears, on the other hand, have shown that they can change gears in clutch moments, especially in front of their home crowd. They’ll look to do the same against the Rams.
Ben Johnson Heaped Praise on Sean McVay
Even though Johnson would be coming out with his best strategy to beat McVay and the Rams, he’s not taking the opposition’s head coach lightly. As per the Chicago Tribune, Johnson has nothing but great things to say about McVay.
Johnson said that it’s difficult to assess if one is better than the other, but in his opinion, McVay is in the “upper echelon” and is part of the best coach conversation.
“All of his teams are well-prepared. There’s no doubt that he’s super sharp on the offensive side, but how he does it as a head coach, bringing all three phases together, is really critical to their success. He knows how to speak to the team and get the most out of them,” he said.
Johnson said that McVay is one of the main reasons why the Rams have been so successful.
