On January 6, the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh. With that, he immediately became the best coach available in the market. Even though it was time for the Ravens to move on, there are several teams in the league dreaming of a coach like Harbaugh.
Interest from teams to sign him has skyrocketed over the last few days. Harbaugh has been linked with multiple teams with little to no official confirmation in the media. The New York Giants, however, recently had a meeting with him.
The Giants have been looking for a new head coach since they fired Brian Daboll. He was replaced by Mike Kafka as the interim head coach, but once the season was over for the Giants, they expedited their search.
As per Ian O’Connor of The Athletic, Harbaugh’s meeting with the Giants ended prematurely. One source told him that the meeting went “excellent”. As for the likelihood of an official deal set to be inked, O’Connor was told, “still talking.”
“Giants building was tight today, but one description of meetings with John Harbaugh was “excellent.” In the evening, when asked about state of an official offer, one participant said ‘still talking’,” he posted.
What’s worth noting here is that Harbaugh went to the Giants. He has shown interest in taking over the head coaching job in New York. However, the team that has approached him for the same job is the Tennessee Titans.
Interestingly, Mike Kafka is still rallying to land the head coaching job in New York and upgrade his interim HC position. As of now, the Giants have multiple options to move forward with, and a final decision is expected to be made over the next few days.
John Harbaugh’s Interview with the Titans
Not signing Harbaugh immediately after the meeting might cost the New York Giants. The former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens is in high demand due to his impressive record-breaking stint in Baltimore.
While the Giants are yet to finalize a deal, the Titans seem to be moving with a clearer vision. As per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, Harbaugh is set to meet the Titans on Thursday.
“John Harbaugh will fly out of Teterboro airport very soon back to his home, where he is scheduled to meet with the Tennessee Titans decision makers on Thursday, sources tell me. The meeting will serve as a formal in-person interview with the Titans at Harbaugh’s residence,” Russini wrote.
With a 180-113 regular season and 13-11 playoff record with a Super Bowl win in 2012, Harbaugh is the best option for these teams. Whoever gets him to sign the deal first wins this battle.
