The opening matchup of the 2025 NFL divisional round delivered high drama, as the Denver Broncos edged past the Buffalo Bills 33–30 in an overtime thriller at Empower Field.

That victory sends Denver through to the conference championship, where they are set to take on the New England Patriots. Meanwhile, Buffalo’s 2025 campaign came to an end in painful fashion, followed by a major shake-up on the sidelines.

In the aftermath of the defeat, the Bills confirmed they have moved on from head coach Sean McDermott, bringing his nine-year tenure with the team to a close.

While there was a lot of interest around John Harbaugh to take up the Bill’s gig, him signing as the New York Giants’ new head coach has put that possibility to bed.

Whilst discussing Bill’s next potential head coach on the Nightcap Podcast, three-time Super Bowl winner Shannon Sharpe, in a conversation with Chad Johnson, put an interesting name in the hat, and no, it wasn’t the former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, who has recently been linked to the franchise.

“(Mike) Tomlin?”, Sharpe blurted out the former Pittsburgh HC’s name while thinking of Bill’s next potential head coach (11:14).

While Tomlin does seem like an apt fit for a franchise like Buffalo, Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson revealed his feelings on Sharpe’s suggestion, stating how the Steelers’ legend may not be open to the idea of coaching a side anymore.

“But I don’t think Mike wants to coach anymore”, Johnson stated (11:19).

“I think he (Mike tomlin) wants to sail off into the sunset even though it’s not ending on the terms that he would like”, he further elaborated (11:23).

Under Mike Tomlin’s 19-year coaching tenure, the Steelers qualified for the playoffs as many as 13 times and won a sixth Super Bowl championship back in 2009.

Daboll, Kubiak Also Emerge As Potential Sean McDermott Replacements

Although his tenure with the New York Giants has featured both highs and lows over the past few seasons, Brian Daboll is expected to be a serious candidate for Buffalo’s head coaching vacancy. Daboll previously served as the Bills’ offensive coordinator from 2018 to 2021, and it won’t be surprising if the franchise went back to him as their new head coach.

Meanwhile, another option that the Bills could potentially look at is Seattle’s offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak who is enjoying a great season with the Seahawks who are slated to face the Rams in their conference championship game next week.
