Russell Wilson and R&B singer Ciara have been married since 2016. They are raising a stepson named Future Zahir and three biological children: Sienna Princess, Win Harrison and Amora Princess.
Wilson accomplished everything in his Hall of Fame-worthy NFL career, including a Super Bowl win. And he is just as accomplished in his personal life, which makes him an ideal person to speak on how to manage successful relationships.
Appearing on “Baby, This is Keke Palmer” with his wife on Tuesday, Wilson said that the key to his successful relationship is having an “old school” kind of love. He said that relationships used to last decades.
“I think we’re so different … having an old school kind of love,” he said. “Nowadays, they only last two days. … When I look back to old school love in general, we didn’t have social media, we didn’t have all those different things to distract us.”
Wilson said that the distractions make things difficult in the modern age, where couples have to navigate their life together while being surrounded by them. Things get more difficult when two people are as successful and busy as Wilson and Ciara.
Trying to focus on each other while being busy in their respective work is the hardest part of their relationship. For Wilson, being in a happy relationship and making sacrifices for the same is a big deal because he also wants to set an example.
As a father, he said that he wants his kids to look up to him. He wants them to understand that their parents worked really hard to make everything as great as it could be and that’ll be his biggest accomplishment in life.
Russell Wilson on Challenges in a Relationship
Russell Wilson said that relationships are challenging, but they can work really well if two people are willing to make the necessary sacrifices. He talked about all the things he learned from his parents while growing up.
“I remember watching my mom and my dad raise us,” he said on the podcast. “And I think about just sacrifice, the sacrifice that my mom, she was an ER nurse, my dad was a lawyer. He worked even two jobs at one point just so we could go to school and afford everything that we needed to do.”
Although Wilson and Ciara face their fair share of challenges as a couple, they have been able to deal with everything because they communicate well with each other.
