Pope Leo XIV has become synonymous with his love for sports and has now been spotted recognizing NFL teams while meeting people around the world.
The latest moment was filmed by a fan meeting the Pope recently, and he could be seen instantly recognizing a fan in a Cleveland Browns hoodie.
“Are you from Cleveland?” the Pope asked after seeing the Cleveland Browns logo on a hoodie of a fan who came to meet him.
He also looked visibly impressed when the fan said he was from Ohio, shaking hands with him before moving away, making for a cool moment for the world to see.
Pope Leo’s love for sports is well known. Being the first American Pope, he loves his sports, and especially teams from Chicago, where he’s from. Recently, he even commented on the Chicago Bears wanting to move base to Indiana, even if his response wasn’t too detailed.
“That’s out of my pay (scale),” the Pope replied to a woman’s question about the new stadium being built.
The Pope Also Wished USA The Best Of Luck For The FIFA World Cup
The Pope’s answer was a bit more detailed when he was asked by a fan about the upcoming FIFA World Cup being co-hosted by the USA, and it’s safe to say he was excited about it.
“I would certainly support the U.S.,” he said. “I don’t know how many games I’ll be able to see but I wish them all the best.”
“The pope is for all teams,” he also said to a fan about his soccer team preference. “(Robert) Prevost (the Pope’s real name) is for Real Madrid.”
