“My Soulmate”: Caitlin Clark’s Former Teammate Shares Heartfelt Message For Kate Martin’s Special Day
Former Iowa Hawkeyes star Jada Gyamfi was over the moon about her friend and Los Angeles Sparks guard Kate Martin’s 26th birthday. Gyamfi shared an Instagram Story on June 5 for Martin, who was also her teammate at Iowa.
Gyamfi posted two photos on her Instagram Story. One showed her and Martin wearing Hawkeyes jerseys.
“It’s Kate day! I love you my soulmate,” Gyamfi wrote in the caption.
In a follow-up Instagram Story, she posted a photo of herself hugging Martin.

Gyamfi, who turned 22 on March 22, and Martin became close friends while playing together at Iowa for two seasons.
Both helped the Hawkeyes reach the NCAA national championship game in back-to-back years. Later, Martin was picked by the Los Angeles Aces in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
The two also played with Caitlin Clark at Iowa. Martin played for four seasons (2020-2024) with Clark, while Gyamfi played for two seasons (2022-2024).
Clark entered the WNBA in 2024.
Now, Gyamfi has stepped away from basketball after a knee injury. She had a medical procedure in December 2025 and will begin student teaching in Des Moines this August.
On March 24, after Gyamfi confirmed her retirement on Instagram, Clark suggested in the comments section that her jersey number 23 should be retired and hung in the rafters “ASAP.”
