With the new season slowly approaching, Brandon Aiyuk’s future remains shrouded in mystery. The wide receiver is on the San Francisco 49ers’ reserve/left squad list and hasn’t found a new home yet. He has made multiple social media posts aimed at the franchise, all but confirming his exit.
On Thursday, 49ers star George Kittle discussed Aiyuk’s situation on “Chris Simms Unbuttoned.” The tight end said that while he can’t share all the details about the situation, he praised the 49ers for the way they handled it.
“I just want to let you know that, I feel like the Niners have done a very good job throughout the entire process and have tried,” kittle said.
“Kyle has tried, John has tried. Teammates have tried. And this is where we are… I know plenty of things and I don’t ever want to single out a player. I don’t want to point a finger at anybody, but I’ve been here for 10 years and I’ve been treated with nothing but respect and love my entire career.”

Brandon Aiyuk agreed to a four-year, $120 million deal with the 49ers in 2024. However, things took a turn following his ACL and MCL injury. He missed the entire 2025 season, resulting in the voiding of his 2026 guaranteed money.
The wide receiver was placed on the reserve/left squad list in December. Since then, he has shared multiple posts criticizing the 49ers and has also been vocal about his desire to play for the Washington Commanders.
49ers legend Steve Young on Brandon Aiyuk’s situation
During the American Century Championship this month, former 49ers quarterback Steve Young was asked about Brandon Aiyuk’s situation. Young, who played for the 49ers from 1987 to 1999 and won three Super Bowls, said he was concerned about the wide receiver and wanted to reach out.
“I worry for him,” Young told reporters. “I feel like I want to reach out and help. This is beyond football, it feels like.”
The 49ers drafted Brandon Aiyuk with the No. 25 pick in 2020. He has played in 69 regular-season games, putting up 4,305 yards on 294 receptions and 25 touchdowns.
