The Arizona Cardinals’ much-publicized contract issues with Jacoby Brissett persist, but there appears to be some chance of reconciliation. The quarterback reportedly made a major decision about his future in Tempe as the week began.
Per Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Jacoby Brissett is now going to make it for the Cardinals’ minicamp despite being locked in conversation around a possible raise on his current contract.
For context, Brissett held out for all of the team’s offseason program, but the threat of a $107,911 fine has seemingly made him rethink his previous decision.
Amid the news of Brissett reporting to the minicamp, fans seem to have had their say about the contract dispute.
“The guy deserves the raise he took one hell of a beating last year and stayed on his feet. He’s also the only QB capable of helping Wilson and Harrison get the numbers they need.. just pay him for a season,” one fan said.
“Give that man 20 million this year and move on,” another fan commented.
“Pay the Man! Cardinals are SO cheap (lookin at you MB),” a fan angrily said.
“Only the cardinals would have a dispute with Jacoby brissett of all people LMAO,” a fan remarked.
“He deserves a raise, but he’s not going get Primo starter money. He’s going to be gone next year,” another fan said.
What are Jacoby Brissett’s Exact Demands?
The Cardinals’ QB is looking for a restructured contract that does justice to his efforts for the team. His current deal pays him $4.88 million with an option to rise to $5.39 million, with just $1.5 million guaranteed.
This is significantly less than, say Gardner Minshew II, who was brought in as a free agent by Arizona in March and has a guaranteed $5.14 million written into his contract.
With Jacoby Brissett now reporting to a minicamp without a restructured deal in place, it remains to be seen how long the two parties can coexist on the current financial terms.
