Tom Brady has explicitly said that he is not supporting any one team in Super Bowl LX. This came as a surprise to many who thought that the seven-time Super Bowl champion would support his old team, the New England Patriots, with which he won six of those championships and made a legend of himself over two decades.
Current Patriots linebacker Robert Spillane is not a fan of this take by the former quarterback, with him telling the press on Thursday that the fact that Brady has said that he has no dog in this fight:
“personally, it makes me sick.”
Spillane is in his first season with the New England team, and he’s about to play the most important game of his entire career. Spillane has not won any personal accolades in his eight-season career, but has become a regular sight in professional football.
He started as an undrafted free agent in 2018, being signed by the Tennessee Titans. The very next year, he moved to the Pittsburgh Steelers (2019-2022) and eventually to the Las Vegas Raiders (2023-2024).
He played at Western Michigan in college, earning Second Team All-MAC selections (2016 and 2017).
Vince Wilfork on Tom Brady’s Comment Regarding Super Bowl LX
Another person who didn’t take kindly to Tom Brady’s comment about neutrality is former Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork.
Wilfork accused the Hall of Fame quarterback of taking a political stance, now that he’s a minority owner of an NFL franchise.
“That’s bullcrap, Tom. Come on now. All that political — this ain’t political. It ain’t political, what it is. The Raiders ain’t in it. Say what it is, what you see?” said Wilfork on Wednesday on a local Boston radio show.
Wilfork is a former teammate of Brady’s. The two played together between 2004 and 2014. Together, they won Super Bowl XXXIX and XLIX. With the Patriots, Wilfork was a First Team All-Pro (2012), four times a Second Team All-Pro (2007, 2009-2011), and a five-time Pro Bowl selection (2007, 2009-2012).
His comments are not that far from the truth, it seems, as when Brady appeared on “Let’s Go!” and explained why he didn’t support either team, he mentioned that he doesn’t see that as his role, now that he’s a minority owner of the Raiders and an analyst for Fox Sports.
