Aaron Donald may have retired in 2024 after 10 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, but a sensational return to the franchise might well be on the cards. Insider Adam Schefter has now detailed the status around the defensive tackle’s possible return.
Speaking on ESPN’s “Get Up,” Schefter reported that Donald has an “open invite” from the Rams to return, but the franchise is not pushing anything on him just yet.
“The Rams are giving him his space to make the decision on his own,” Schefter said.
“They don’t want to say, ‘We really want you back, come back,’ and all of a sudden midway through the season he’s saying, ‘Why did I come back?’ So, what’s going on in the interim is he’s gone back to the facility, he’s put on the pads, he’s gone through football drills, which he hasn’t done for a couple of years. He’s trying to decide, finally and officially, whether or not he wants to do this after being out of the sport for two years. The Rams want him back, it’s an open invite, he has to sign off on coming back.”
Why Did Aaron Donald Retire?
Aaron Donald revealed that he took the tough decision to call it quits in March 2024 because the passion he had was not quite there.
“I’m complete. I’m full,” Donald told the official LA Rams website.
“I think the passion to play the game is no longer there for me. I will always love football, but to think about going through another camp and another 17 (game) season, I just don’t got the urge to want to push myself through that no more. I’m just, I’m burnt out. The best way to say it is I’m full, I’m complete. I’m satisfied with what I was able to do in 10 years. I think it’s time for me at 32 years old to retire from football and jump into the next step of my career, my life. Now it’s time to move on.”
If he does return, Donald could form a formidable partnership with Myles Garrett that would leave Rams fans super excited for the future.
