In lieu of the 2026 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh commuters need to be aware of road closures in place during the event, from Wednesday to Saturday. With hundreds of thousands of visitors expected, officials have rolled out multi-phase road closures, detours, and transit changes that could affect daily travelers.
The NFL draft will take place between April 23 and April 25 around the North Shore and Point State Park. In order to accommodate the event, the city has converted large sections of downtown into a pedestrian-first “Draft Campus.”
Streets that are near the event areas have been closed to vehicles. The movement around Acrisure Stadium and Point State Park is also restricted. People are advised to take public transportation so that their daily routine is not affected.
NFL Draft Pittsburgh Road Closures
The following roads are expected to remain closed for the remainder of the draft week:
- North Shore Drive
- Mazeroski Way
- West General Robinson Street
- Federal Street
- Lacock Street
- Sproat Way
- Chuck Noll Way
- Tony Dorsett Drive
- Penn Avenue (select sections)
Moreover, the bridges and ramps below will also be impacted this week:
- Sixth Street Bridge (Roberto Clemente Bridge)
- Seventh Street Bridge (Andy Warhol Bridge)
- Smithfield Street Bridge
- I-279 ramps and Route 65 ramps
To help the commuters, Pittsburgh Regional Transit will run extra passenger buses and light rail service to Downtown and the North Shore. Two cars will run on the Blue Line and Red Line every 15 minutes from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Meanwhile, the Silver Line’s frequency will be every 30 minutes between Library and Washington Junction.
“Far fewer folks are going to be coming in, and this lets us focus on the trips we can do and these extra shuttles and guarantee it,” PRT CEO Katharine Kelleman said. “We want to help the draft, but we want to get everyone to work too.”
This closure hasn’t started overnight, but rather has been put in place since March 28, phase-wise. As a result, if you normally drive through downtown or the North Shore, expect heavy congestion. Some roads/bridges may not be accessible as mentioned above and navigation apps will continue to adjust accordingly.
