Mike Macdonald Responds to Sam Darnold’s Haters After NFC Championship Game

Sam Darnold’s Seattle Seahawks are going to the Super Bowl. After the Conference Championship win against the Los Angeles Rams, head coach Mike Macdonald heaped praise on his team, especially his quarterback.

The Seahawks took control early in the game, going 10-3 in the first quarter. By halftime, the Rams managed to cut the lead down to four points, but they never recovered from the first-quarter deficit, eventually losing the game 27-31.

Sam Darnold was once again the key to Seattle’s game. He went 25 of 36 for 346 yards and three touchdowns. From the Rams, Matthew Stafford tried his level best with 22 of 35 for 374 yards and three touchdowns, but the home team stayed in control of the game.

While speaking to the media after the game, Macdonald stated that he can’t talk about the win without mentioning his quarterback. In his opinion, Darnold left no scope for his naysayers to downplay his impact.

“He just shut a lot of people up tonight, and I’m really happy for him,” Macdonald said.

The coach was at a loss for words at the beginning of his press conference. Elated by the win and his team now being Super Bowl-bound, Macdonald stated that he’s incredibly proud of his team and how they played tonight.

“To be able to take it in after and understand what our team has been able to do up to this point and how they’ve done it…We’re just blessed that we’ve got a heck of a group, a great organization with a great owner, best fans,” Macdonald said.

The Seahawks will now play the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl on February 8.

Mike Macdonald on the Sacrifices He Has Made

Coaches get their due credit in the NFL. Players and fans understand just how important a coach and their vision is when it comes to the team’s success. Macdonald is no exception; he gets his due credit when his team does well.

However, fans still don’t understand the sheer effort and time it takes for a coach to come up with an effective game plan every week. Macdonald provided an insight into how hectic his life has been lately.

“I don’t get to see Jack throughout the week as much,” Macdonald said. “So, Thursdays, which is today, I try to get home pretty quick to be with him for maybe half an hour, an hour before he goes to bed. And then, I’ve got a setup in my house where I can work on the game plan.”

Macdonald received some criticism from fans over his comment. Some fans outlined that not giving enough time to his son is inexcusable. But the Seattle fans will have nothing negative to say about it right now.
