Michael Penix Jr. Injury Update: Falcons QB Reveals Knee Update Ahead of 2026-27 Season

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. tore his left ACL in Week 11 of the 2025 season in November and had reconstructive surgery a few weeks later. Although Penix was ruled out for the rest of the season, the quarterback has shared an encouraging update on his recovery.

On Friday, Penix appeared on the “Up&Adams” show and said that he plans to be ready for Week 1 of the 2026 season.

“I’m doing real good right now,” Penix said when asked about his knee injury. “I just met with my doctor yesterday, and he likes where I’m at. We started to get things going. I’m doing a lot of stretching and stuff right now, so I know I’ll be back and ready whenever the time comes.”

Penix, who has had three ACL surgeries, added that he thinks he is slightly ahead of schedule amid his recovery.

Pennix hurt his knee in the third quarter of Atlanta’s 30-27 overtime loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Falcons QB was tackled by Carolina safety Tre’von Moehrig on a third-and-10 play from Atlanta’s own 22-yard line.

Since Penix was sidelined for the rest of the season, Kirk Cousins took on the starting quarterback role at Atlanta.

Penix previously tore his ACL in 2018 and 2020, both while playing college football at Indiana.
