Maxx Crosby’s Baltimore Ravens falling through has been one of the biggest storylines in the NFL. Everything was in place for the 28-year-old defensive end to move to another team for the first time in his career.
Crosby was drafted by the Las Vegas Raiders in 2019 and has been with them since. In March 2025, Crosby signed a three-year $106.5 million contract extension with $91.5 million guaranteed and an average salary of $35.5 million per year.
That deal made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league for a while. The Raiders would’ve inherited his contract, and Crosby would’ve been with a new team by now. However, the star DE failed his physical, and the Ravens pulled the plug.
Hours later, reports surfaced that the Ravens were signing Trey Hendrickson, a four-time Pro Bowl DE who has been in the league since 2017. The timing of the two deals is paving the way for speculation.
While the speculations are carried out by fans, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini recently reported that it was one or the other situation for the Ravens.
“As part of the proposed trade for Maxx Crosby, the Ravens were also prepared to sign him to a revised contract that would have paid him near the top of the pass rusher market. Had that deal gone through, it would have made also signing Trey Hendrickson VERY difficult,” he wrote.
“Instead, Baltimore lands Hendrickson on a deal roughly $8-10 million cheaper per year and the Ravens retains their first-round draft picks,” he added.
As per reports, Hendrickson agreed on a four-year, $112 million contract with the Ravens.
Ravens’ General Manager on Maxx Crosby Deal Falling Through
When the Ravens backed out of the Crosby deal, many believed that they had buyer’s remorse. The assumption was that, as talented as he is, the price tag and his recent injury struggles might’ve opened their eyes.
However, Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta recently assured people that he’s not happy with the deal falling through.
“I understand how people might maybe from afar would feel that way, but nobody’s more upset about this than me — gutted by it actually,” he said. “And so a regret, a big regret for me, but we will move on as a football team.”
DeCosta made this comment during a recent media interaction. While the Ravens have added another DE to the roster, the Raiders are left with the decision of whether to keep Crosby or find another trade for him.
