Jerry Jones’ Dallas Cowboys have a vision for free agency. They’re showing early signs of the direction they’ll be taking with their recent decisions. But there’s so much more to come.
The Cowboys are set to have a more aggressive approach in free agency this year, and Skip Bayless wants them to go all-in. The media veteran recently took to X to urge Jones to sign defensive end Trey Hendrickson.
“OK, Jerry, now you HAVE TO sign Trey Hendrickson if you even want to have a CHANCE next season,” Bayless wrote.
Hendrickson started his career with the New Orleans Saints after being picked in the third round in the 2017 NFL Draft. In 2021, he moved to the Cincinnati Bengals and is currently looking for a new home for himself.
Bayless believes that Jones should sign Hendrickson, as it’ll increase his chances of making a run at the title next season. But the race to sign Hendrickson already has some of the biggest players in the market.
The Indianapolis Colts are being considered the frontrunners, followed by the Los Angeles Chargers and the Chicago Bears. If these three teams can’t sign him, the Washington Commanders are also waiting in line.
More importantly, the Cowboys offered a one-year, $3 million deal to defensive end Sam Williams. It’ll be interesting to see if Jones’ “aggressive” approach in free agency will help him land Hendrickson as well.
Jerry Jones on Plans for Free Agency and Draft
The Dallas Cowboys are looking to bounce back after underwhelming seasons in recent years. They haven’t made the playoffs since 2023 and haven’t won the conference title since 1995, the same year they won their last Super Bowl.
As far as talent is concerned, the Cowboys have had stacked teams for years, but Jerry Jones is still taking an aggressive approach to team building.
“I could see us being aggressive in free agency,” he said. “By the very virtue of having two number ones, we’re gonna spend more money in the draft than normally you would spend… I would bet that we will spend more money in free agency than we have.”
With a stronger team and healthier roster, the Cowboys will have their strongest chance of winning the title in years. Now everything depends on the players they sign and draft this offseason.
