Matthew Stafford’s MVP Win Tainted as Fans Complain About Drake Maye Snub

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford was named the 2025 NFL Most Valuable Player, as he narrowly defeated Drake Maye in one of the closest MVP races in recent memory. Stafford received 24 of 50 first-place votes to finish with 366 total points, while Maye ended with 361 points.

This was Stafford’s first MVP in 17 NFL seasons. He led the Rams to the NFC championship game, where the Seattle Seahawks defeated them. On the other hand, Maye is having a stellar run, taking the Patriots to their first Super Bowl since the end of the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era.

In the MVP voting, Buffalo Bills quarterback finished third with 91 points, including two first-place votes, followed by San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (71), Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence (49) and Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert, who also received one first-place vote.

Several fans were not happy with the results, as they Maye should have won it over Stafford.

“Absolutely robbed Drake maye,” one fan commented.

“Absolute disgrace. One first place vote was the difference. One voter chose stafford because he overcame a sore back in the pre-season,” another fan added.

“Two bills fans who didn’t want Drake Maye to win,” one fan said.

    “maye robbed ngl,” another added.

“Damn hella close but Maye was better,” one fan reacted.

“You see this Drake. YOU SEE THIS. SHOW EM SUNDAY,” one fan added.

“Undeserved, Maye got robbed,” one fan wrote.

NFL MVP Race Between Matthew Stafford and Drake Maye

Both Drake Maye and Matthew Stafford were absolutely great while leading their franchise in the 2025 season.

The Rams quarterback led the league in passing yards (4,707) and passing touchdowns (46), while guiding the franchise to a 12-5 record and a deep playoff run. Meanwhile, Maye led the league in passer rating (113.5) and completion percentage (72%, throwing 4,394 yards and 31 touchdowns).

Despite the potential MVP snub, Maye has an eye on an even more important prize, which is winning the Lombardi Trophy with the Patriots. In order to do so, they will have to outperform Sam Darnold’s Seahawks, who earned the No. 1 seed in NFC and defeated Stafford’s Rams to reach Super Bowl LX. It remains to be seen if Maye can lead the Patriots back to glory come 8th February at Levi’s Stadium.
