Sean McDermott’s Buffalo Bills escaped defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the Wild Card round by the skin of their teeth. The game ended 27-24 in favor of Buffalo, with them winning by a rushing touchdown by quarterback Josh Allen in the last minute of the game. Egregiously, the Bills were unable to stop the Jaguars’ rushing game, with their opponents putting together 154 rushing yards.
Fans online wasted no time in expressing their thoughts on how Buffalo’s defense worked, or rather didn’t, this Saturday. Many blamed Sean McDermott for the performance.
“Sean McDermott and his defense has single-handed ruined Josh Allen’s career. #BillsMafia,” wrote one fan.
“Sean McDermott better learn unemployed, buddy,” joked another fan.
“I mean why do I expect anything to be any different? McDermotts defense will continue to fail us year and year and year again with Sean McDermott,” complained yet another fan.
The eventual win by the Bills didn’t discourage fans from complaining about McDermott.
“Sean McDermott should be fired before this game ends. Even if buffalo wins, they have no shot with him as coach,” explained someone.
“sean mcdermott needs to go back to high school football to figure out how the rules of the game works, stop trying to throw professional football games,” said someone ironically.
“Sean McDermott would hesitate to call the police if he got shot,” joked one person.
“SEAN MCDERMOTT IS A DEFENSIVE MINDED HEAD COACH WHO EVERY SINGLE F*CKING PLAYOFFS DEFENCE LETS US DOWN AT SOME F*CKING POINT YOU HAVE TO GIVE HIM 10000000% OF THE F*CKING BLAME THAT HE IS OWED,” wrote one fan angrily.
They also mocked him for using the tush push today.
“Reminder Sean McDermott campaigned to ban the tush push this offseason citing player safety and then ran it at the highest rate in the NFL this year,” explained one observer.
A few fans did support McDermott’s decisions.
“Sean McDermott had a coaching masterclass today. That challenge was the game changer,” said someone.
Rex Ryan Believes Pressure is on Sean McDermott This Postseason, Not Josh Allen
For all of Josh Allen’s individual prowess, the Buffalo Bills haven’t managed to translate that into team championships yet. Some believe that enough is enough, and that Allen needs to prove himself by leading the team to a Super Bowl this postseason. Rex Ryan, however, believes Sean McDermott has more pressure on him.
Speaking earlier this week on “NFL Postseason Countdown,” the veteran coach-turned-analyst said:
“I see the pressure is on Sean McDermott… He’s got to get a road victory and that’s something that a Josh Allen-Sean McDermott team hasn’t done before.”
The duo just overcame their first obstacle by defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars. Another test awaits in the Divisional round next week.
