Diego Pavia seems to have been given a new lease on life soon after going undrafted at the 2026 NFL Draft. The Baltimore Ravens have invited the quarterback to their minicamp next weekend, basically offering him an opportunity to get his NFL dream back.
It seemed unlikely anything was going to work out for the former Vanderbilt QB, who hosted a draft party and initially seemed confident of getting picked, but soon realized that teams weren’t as interested as he thought.
The Heisman finalist was largely criticized following the snub, with many suggesting that off-field factors were the reasons behind his draft mishap, but former Vanderbilt star Jordan Matthews seemed to know the tide was going to shift.
Even before Adam Schefter confirmed that the Ravens were giving Pavia a chance, Matthews tweeted out that he believed Pavia would “win” out of this, and all hope was not lost just yet.
Matthews was one of Vanderbilt’s top players and was selected in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft, and is well aware of the qualities a player like Pavia can bring.
Ravens’ Strategy Behind Giving Pavia a Chance
The Baltimore Ravens could end up getting the best deal out of this entire arrangement. Diego Pavia is still undoubtedly one of the top QBs coming out of college, and while earning a spot on the 90-man offseason roster won’t be easy, it could be telling.
Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley are the two QBs under contract at the Ravens at the moment, which means space for a third QB is very much open, giving Pavia a clear shot at the spot should he do his trial justice at minicamp.
And considering his success at the collegiate level, one would think he has all the tools to smash the tryout and get his shot at the NFL once again.
