Nico Collins is no stranger to the injury report this year. The wide receiver played 15 games in the regular season, missing one game due to a concussion. Collins suffered another injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers, raising concerns over his availability for their divisonal-round matchup against the New England Patriots.
Here’s a look at the wide receiver’s injury status and whether he will play on Sunday.
Nico Collins Injury Update
Nico Collins suffered a concussion against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild Card round. He is questionable, according to a Wednesday update by CBS Sports. Collins missed the portion of Wednesday’s practice open to the media as he remained in concussion protocol.
While he hasn’t been ruled out, missing practice is not a good sign for his chances of suiting up on Sunday.
Will Nico Collins Play Against Patriots?
His practice availability will speak volumes over the course of the week. If Collins can have even one full practice, he will likely get on the field. However, if he is limited or misses practice all week, he is highly likely to be ruled out.
Concussion protocol requires players to complete a five-step process, with tests at each stage before being cleared to return.
The good news for the receiver is that Houston is scheduled to play on Sunday, which will give him a bit more time to recover. The Texans face New England on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3:00 PM EST.
Of course, Houston is still coming off a short week after playing on Monday Night Football, which doesn’t help matters.
The difference between winning and losing against New England could come down to whether Collins suits up, making the injury the story of the lead-up to the contest.
