John Harbaugh Shares Key Abdul Carter Injury Update After Giants DL Seemingly Leaves Practice Limping

After evidently sustaining an injury during the New York Giants’ mandatory minicamp practice session on Monday afternoon, linebacker Abdul Carter limped off the field. The injury scare has left a lot of Giants fans concerned, considering how offseason injuries have plagued the league in the past few weeks.

However, it looks like fans can breathe a sigh of relief, as the condition of their key defensive piece doesn’t appear to be as severe as the first onlookers thought it was.

Asked about Carter’s injury after the end of the minicamp practice session, Giants coach John Harbaugh revealed how the pass rusher twisted his ankle, but it doesn’t appear to be a major concern.

“It looks like he twisted his ankle to some degree. It doesn’t look serious”, Harbaugh stated (0:28).

With the minicamp scheduled to take place up until Wednesday, it remains to be seen if Carter recovers in time to return to the field for practice.

In his rookie NFL season, Abdul Carter appeared in all 17 regular-season games after being drafted as the third pick in 2025. The former Penn State star registered 43 tackles in total, including 25 solo stops and 18 assisted tackles, while also recording four sacks.

Early OTA Sessions Offer a Glimpse of the Giants’ New-Look Defense

So far on the defensive front, New York has onboarded nine new faces, with D.J. Reader, Shelby Harris, Leki Fotu, Sam Roberts, Josh Tupou, Zacch Pickens, Bobby Jamison-Travis, Anquin Barnes Jr. and Ben Barten adding to their depth.

On the field, the OTAs have seen the trio of Darius Alexander, Reader and Fotu featured regularly. While it’s a given that John Harbaugh would like to try out as many players as he can in these practice sessions, the combination of Alexander, Reader and Fotu could be realized on the field this season.

The Giants’ three-day voluntary minicamp, which is slated to run from Monday to Wednesday, will see the players partake in two 150-minute practice sessions on the first two days, the maximum duration sanctioned by the league, followed by a 75-minute session on the third day.
