New York Giants GM Joe Schoen could most certainly do without too much controversy in this year’s NFL Draft after everything that went on last year.
For those unaware, Schoen most certainly was sweating bullets after it emerged that Shedeur Sanders received a phony call suggesting that Schoen wanted him at the Giants, falsely giving the then-Colorado Buffaloes QB hope about a move.
An online entourage of fans initially blamed Schoen’s daughter, Sydney Schoen, for orchestrating the prank call, leading to a cavalcade of hate comments that would have taken a toll on anyone, let alone someone as young as her.
The news was, of course, proven to be false, and it was later confirmed that the prank call came via Atlanta Falcons’ defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich’s son, Jax Ulbrich, who apologized for leaking the number of Sanders.
The controversy clearly left a mark on young Sydney Schoen, though, and she appeared to reference the moment in her address to the public about this year’s draft.
“I just want to come out here and say happy draft day. And if any phone numbers are leaked this year, we know who it wasn’t,” Sydney said, referencing last year’s awkward moment.
Thankfully for her, no such big controversy has emerged just yet, with the Giants going about business as usual.
Giants Make Big Moves on Day 1 of Draft
Joe Schoen will be pleased with his business on Day 1, with the standout pick being Arvell Reese from Ohio State in the No. 5 spot. Pick 10 also went to the Giants with Francis Mauigoa making his way to New York from Miami.
Colton Hood in round 2 at the no. 37 spot also goes to the Giants with a slew of other picks expected in later rounds at the draft, marking a solid showing so far.
