There were rumors a few years ago about JJ Watt possibly coming out of retirement to reunite and play alongside his brothers, Derek Watt and TJ Watt. Unfortunately, the rumors never became a reality.
However, as per JJ, he was once very close to joining his two brothers in Pittsburgh, but he had to hold back for one peculiar reason. During a recent appearance on Manningcast, JJ was asked about his two brothers playing for the Steelers at the same time.
When asked if he ever considered joining them, JJ revealed that he would have loved to play alongside Derek and TJ. However, when the rumors were at an all-time high, and he was considering joining them, TJ was in the middle of a contract negotiation.
“T.J. was in the middle of a contract negotiation there, and I wasn’t going to take away any money from his big negotiation that he was going through. I very much would’ve loved it,” he SAID.
JJ said that he’d have considered coming out of retirement on only two conditions.
“The Steelers or the Texans in the last couple years, didn’t end up working out in any capacity, but it I’m always jealous. They played high school, they played college, and they played NFL together, and it just seems like the coolest experience ever.”
“I’m very lucky that we all got to be on the field one time at the same time, and it was unfortunate that was during COVID when my parents couldn’t be in attendance,” he added.
It’s unfathomable what a complete defensive line with TJ and JJ would’ve looked like. Even in theory, it seems like a nightmare for opponents who would’ve had to deal with them.
JJ Watt’s Brother’s Team Got Eliminated from the Playoffs
JJ’s brother, TJ, and the Pittsburgh Steelers went against the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round matchup tonight. Led by veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers, the Steelers stayed in the game for the first three quarters.
Although both teams struggled on offense initially, they were neck to neck as far as the scoreline was concerned. Then in the fourth quarter, the Texans went on a 23-0 onslaught, crushing the Steelers’ hopes of advancing to the divisional round.
With that loss, the Steelers are no longer in contention for the title run, and it has also created doubts over Rodgers’ future in the league.
