Aaron Rodgers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are playing the Houston Texans at home in the Wild Card Round. Only minutes into the game, Rodgers was seen frustrated with Kenneth Gainwell for running the wrong route.
In a video posted by Dov Kleiman on X, Rodgers can be seen yelling, allegedly at Gainwell for bringing the drive to a halt. At the time, neither team had any points on the board.
With under two minutes to go in the first half, the Texans are leading the home team 7-1. The video of Rodgers getting angry at Gainwell comes just weeks after the veteran quarterback heaped praise on him.
During the Week 16 matchup against the Detroit Lions, Rodgers trusted Gainwell on a deep route, which resulted in a touchdown. That touchdown helped the Steelers secure a 29-24 win and made Rodgers realize what he had been missing for so long.
At the press conference, Rodgers was all praise for the running back. He stated that Gainwell’s passing game was unbelievable and wished that they could have been teammates years ago.
“Kenny’s been unbelievable in the passing game. Just unbelievable. And he’s so damn smart. I was telling him, ‘I wish I had played with him for 10 years.’ Just because the kind of player that he is. You just love playing with that guy,” Rodgers said.
Gainwell must have really missed the mark or failed to execute the play exactly how Rodgers envisioned it for him to lose his calm on the field. Although the Steelers are one point behind at halftime, they’re still in the game and have an opportunity to qualify for the divisional rounds in the second half.
Aaron Rodgers on Embracing the Mundane Part of His Job
There’s been a lot of discussion about whether this will be Rodgers’ final season in the league. Last month, the quarterback turned 42 years old. In June 2025, he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rodgers hasn’t made a final decision on his career yet, or at least he hasn’t announced it for the world. As of now, he’s enjoying playing football and has been really effective for the Steelers.
“I embrace all the moments. I enjoy all of it. There’s a lot of beauty in the mundane. The mundane is the Monday to Saturday when you can actually win games. I embrace that part of the job and I’ve loved it. That’s why I’m still here, still playing,” he said.
Rodgers is still enjoying the week long trainings before actually stepping on the field for a game on Sunday. If we are to draw our own conclusions from his comment, it’s unlikely that he’ll retire after this season.
