Initially projected to be a first-round pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Jermod McCoy has dropped all the way to the third round of the event.
The player’s draft stock seems to have been hurt due to his rather slim build, at just 188 pounds, and the fact that he’s recovering from an ACL injury he suffered in January 2025, which made him miss the entirety of his third college football season.
Regardless, he’s thought to be an elite talent, and fans online are baffled that no team has selected him yet.
“Bro, this is straight-up f*cking crazy 😂 There’s gotta be some behind-the-scenes shit going on that we’re not being told about 👀,” joked one person.
Others floated reasons as to why he has dropped so far.
“The tape shows elite coverage skills but scouts are hung up on size. Late second round is a steal if the footwork translates, that’s the whole bet,” explained one person.
“McCoy, a 6’1″ corner with strong athleticism and coverage traits, was widely projected as a first-round pick pre-draft but slid due to his recovery from a 2025 ACL tear that,” said someone referencing his recent injury.
Others thought whoever takes the risk will be making the deal of the draft.
“Late-round availability like this often leads to immediate ‘steal of the draft’ conversations once he’s picked,” claimed one fan.
“Jermod McCoy is still sitting there late in Round 2. The University of Tennessee DB has starter-level traits. Hard to ignore the value at this point. A team is about to get a bargain,” wrote one person.
Where could he end up?
“That signals a pretty clear intent from the San Francisco 49ers heading into Round 2 👀,” ventured another individual.
“jermod mccoy watching every team explain themselves to him right now,” joked one fan.
Which teams could take Jermod McCoy?
Going into the third and potential fourth rounds, there’s a plethora of teams that could make use of the services of Jermod McCoy. The New York Giants, Cincinnati Bengals, Green Bay Packers, Arizona Cardinals, and Miami Dolphins need a cornerback.
It’s almost certain he will end up somewhere; the question now is whether he ends up being a Day 3 pick between rounds four and seven. There’s always a player who slips through the rankings, and this year it seems to be Jermod McCoy’s turn.
