James Pearce Jr.’s Arrest Nearly Led to Worse Outcome as Police Almost Made Drastic Call

Atlanta Falcons rookie linebacker James Pearce Jr. was arrested Saturday in Florida. WPLG Local 10 News broke the news. At the time, it was reported to be a domestic dispute that led to Pearce crashing his car during a police chase.

Pearce was recently in the news, but it was positive as he was in the running for the Defensive Rookie of the Year award. He lost that award to Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger. Within moments, the news of his arrest spread like wildfire.

Soon after the news went viral, more details about his case started surfacing. Fox Sports’ Andy Slater was providing regular updates on the developing matter through his social media account. He reported that Pearce was accused of intentionally crashing his Lamborghini into his ex-girlfriend’s car multiple times.

He was allegedly trying to stop her from going to the police station, which led to the cops chasing his car. Then Pearce intentionally drove his car into a police officer, hitting the officer in his knee as he tried to get away from the scene.

Slater reported that a police source told him that Pearce is “lucky to be alive” after hitting the police officer with his car. Pearce might not have realized it at the time, but his actions could’ve had drastic consequences.

Intentionally hitting a police officer with a car can lead to life-threatening situations. Moments later, Slater came up with new information on the case, which is terrifying to say the least.

“The officer had his gun drawn as Pearce Jr. was allegedly not obeying commands, I’ve learned,” Slater wrote on X.

There’s an alleged video of the time when the police were trying to arrest Pearce at the scene. With the new information and the footage, it looks like things could’ve gone very wrong in an instant, but thankfully, it didn’t, and Pearce was arrested.

Atlanta Falcons Released a Statement After James Pearce Jr.’s Arrest

Situations like this are always tough to navigate from a franchise’s perspective. They wouldn’t like to denounce their player, but at the same time, with limited information available, teams take a neutral stance.

Atlanta did the same after Pearce was arrested. They stated that they were aware of the incident and were working to gather more information on the same.

“We are aware of an incident involving James Pearce Jr., in Miami. We are in the process of gathering more information and will not have any further comment on an open legal matter at this time,” the team said in a statement.

Pearce was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center after his arrest.
